Programming and Events Coordinator
The Sparks Street Business Improvement Area (BIA) & Mall Authority is seeking a Programming and Events Coordinator. The successful candidate will oversee and develop programming and events that enhance the pedestrian experience on Sparks Street. The ideal candidate would work to ensure events are strategic, creative, fun, successful, and cost-effective — ultimately driving traffic to Sparks Street in support our valued visitors, business owners, residents and vendors.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director and working in a small team, the Programming and Events Coordinator is, above all, a projects manager who can create and execute an annual organizational plan featuring multiple events and ongoing programming elements generating high quality results.
Position Type: Full Time – Permanent
Salary: $41,000.00 to $45,000.00 plus annual Performance Based Incentive
Medical and Dental Benefits offered after successful completion of three month probationary period.
Responsibilities:

Management of all Sparks Street events including Ottawa Ribfest, Ottawa International Buskerfest, and Poutinefest according to organizational requirements, target audiences and strategic objectives

Assist third party organizers in producing successful events that conform to Sparks Street policies and procedures

Establish detailed budgets for each event and ensure fiscal compliance

Preparation of Request for Proposals as required to secure suppliers and vendors

Generate and present post event and programming reports

Hiring, supervision and scheduling of summer staff and temporary event workers

Support Sparks Street’s marketing and communications plans in conjunction with the Marketing Coordinator and Executive Director. This includes creation, curation, and monitoring of digital content (images, video and written) for web and social media

Assist Site Manager with traffic management and general site maintenance to enhance and contribute to the pedestrian experience on Sparks Street

Required Skills and Attributes:

Post-secondary degree/diploma and/or related experience in Event Planning, Public Relations, Marketing, Hospitality Management, Arts Administration or related field

Knowledge of best practices in non-profits and event management fields

Proven ability to successfully manage events and programming within a budget

Willingness to learn, take direction and be adaptable in a constantly changing environment

Availability to work evenings and weekends

Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

Ability to work under pressure with rigid timelines

Outstanding verbal and written communications skills

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Intermediate+ proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook

A valid Ontario unrestricted "G" class driver's license (or provincial equivalent)

Knowledge of proper methods of lifting, loading and stacking heavy materials

Language: Bilingual required, English and French
